A note on the stones:
Diamond is the hardest natural substance — traditionally worn for clarity and constancy, and the birthstone of April. Amethyst was, for centuries, valued as highly as diamond — its deep violet colour was reserved for royalty until large Brazilian deposits made it more accessible in the 1700s. The birthstone of February.
