A note on the stones:
Ruby is one of the four "precious" stones, alongside diamond, sapphire, and emerald. The red comes from chromium in the crystal — the same element that gives emerald its green. Rubies have been worn since antiquity as a stone of vitality and protection. The pearls beside it are the quietest of the three — slow-made, formed inside a living thing.
