Green Tourmaline — Step-Cut Rectangle, Afghanistan

From

Price

A$600.00

A small, softly-green tourmaline from Afghanistan — step-cut into a clean rectangle, the kind of stone that doesn't need elaborate setting to look right. Untreated and hand-selected for the studio.

Design ideas:
— A delicate solitaire ring with the stone set vertically along the finger
— An east-west ring with the rectangle running horizontally
— A pendant on a fine chain — small and quiet against the throat
— Paired with the matching pink tourmaline in a multi-stone composition (same cut, same source, complementary colours)

Available for bespoke design.

Starting from $600 in 100% recycled sterling silver
Starting from $1,300 in 100% recycled 9ct yellow gold

Final price depends on the design chosen. All quotes include sketches, design, and final polish — with no surprise costs. A full quote is provided before any work begins.

The design ideas above are suggestions to start the conversation — we're happy to adjust, mix elements, or explore other directions entirely. This is your piece.

Details

Details:
— Type: Natural green tourmaline (verdelite)
— Cut: Step-cut rectangle (also called portrait cut)
— Colour: Green, untreated
— Dimensions: 4.81 × 3.48 × 2.01mm
— Weight: 0.35 carats
— Clarity: Included (natural inclusions visible — typical of untreated stones)
— Treatment: None
— Origin: Afghanistan (likely Nuristan)

A note on the stone:
Afghanistan — particularly Nuristan province — produces some of the world's finest tourmalines. Green tourmaline (historically called verdelite) is less common than the more familiar pink variety; its colour comes from natural traces of chromium and iron in the crystal, with no heat treatment to alter or deepen it.

The step-cut rectangle (sometimes called a portrait cut) is a modern, geometric way to show a stone — letting the colour and clarity speak rather than relying on faceted sparkle.

Care Guide

This piece is handcrafted in malleable wire and to ensure longevity, extra care is recommended when being worn. Significant pressure can cause the post to bend out of shape or break.
